There's water at the bottom of the ocean

And you may say to David Byrne, that is the most bizarre lyric I can think of.

The public holidays are flowing thick and fast here. Wednesday was Festa della Liberazione, on which myself and the Ukrainian visitor Leonid went to Belluno, 100km from the Austrian border, to my local supervisor Luciano's house. As I looked at this marvelous stone house with an orchid out the back, situated in an ancient village in the picturesque valley between the Lower Alps and the Dolomites, speaking with Luciano's charming wife and unnaturally well-behaved children, drinking wine; and as I thought back to Juris' beautiful home in a cosy suburb and his charming wife and successful children; as I considered these two men's rewarding and fulfilled lives, I thought, yeah, nah, I'm going to chuck it in and go back to working at that crappy service station.

And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife.
And you may ask yourself, Well...How did I get here?

Tuesday is May Day and today I was paid a very large sum. Today's discourse can be boiled down to the following:
"Young man, you have a 4 day weekend, you have what is for that period an effectively unlimited amount of hard currency, and you are in Europe. Enjoy."
The problem is that this is somewhat overwhelming.

And you may ask yourself, where does that highway go?

After weighing up my options, and finding out what accommodation is available, and being inconsiderate enough to ask my friends unlucky enough to be online what to do in such a terrible bind, I have opted to go to the west coast, where the houses are built onto the cliffs' edges, because I haven't seen the open ocean in months.

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down.
