I turned your picture to the wall

New pictures grace the gallery pages as promised.

It was -47 today including wind chill. Schools were closed, buses cancelled. I wisely neglected to go to uni. Instead, I mooched around the house and watched some guy who thought it was 1974 do this incredible painting in half an hour and talk about where trees and rocks want to live. Blessed be American PBS.

What about the ladies?
Hey Paul,

It's Mark! Hope you're well - you sound like you are! I've caught up with your adventures and have noticed a glaring omission - the chicks! Are Canadian college girls hot? Y'know lil' snow bunnies?

The NHL team left Winnipeg years ago for Carolina (I believe), but are you planning to catch a local game?

My geography is crap; can you post a brief note letting all your humble viewers (readers?) know how far you are from other Canadian towns?

Take care, mate and I'll have a drink for you on Australia Day! Oi!

Re: What about the ladies?
Hey Marky mark,

Sadly, haven't met many ladies in my week here. I think it's hard to gauge the attractiveness of the girls under all the bulky cold weather gear.
I hadn't really thought about the football. It's really in the background as everyone here is too obsessed with ice hockey, to the point that it's on one of their bank notes.

Winnipeg is about half way between the Atlantic and Pacific, and about 150 km north of the US border. It's 1208 km to Calgary to the west, 1518 km to Toronto and 1680 to Ottawa in the east. It's 14,993 km from Melbourne.

Speaking of all things Australian, some unscrupulous customs guy pinched the key ring you gave me. It was tied to the ribbon on top ofmy bag and when I got to Canada I found the ring had been pried open and left there, with the flag bit gone.

Hey Paul!

It's Allison. Sounds like you are having a great time!!! I'll keep this brief - just want to keep you up-to-date with what is going on here. Things are pretty stressful here at the moment. Mark's dad has been diagnosed with secondary cancer - in the brain. He has several tumours and the doctor has painted a prett bleak picture - two months. The aim is to keep Bill at home as long as possible. He is fairly vague and confused, wandering around and opening cupbords etc and he really can't be left alone too long because he is becoming unsteady on his feet and he really isn't eating and drinking. Carol is with him most days - he will most likely stay at her house so she can keep an eye on him. We are getting up to Healesville as much as we can but it is hard with work etc. I'll keep you posted - I just wanted to let you know.

On a lighter note, we were great customers of "Body Language" in Lilydale yesterday. Mark got the tatoo on his back finished and the southern cross tatooed to his calf (how wonderfully oz!) and I FINALLY got my navel pierced! It didn't hurt and I didn't cry!!! Adam was very impulsive and added to his collection of tattoos - this time an anchor with "Tracey" tatooted to the inside of his wrist. He wasn't popular with Tracey until the tatooist got out his digital camera so he could take a picture of it so he could add it to their books!

So, that it all from me (for today at least!)Remember - you can't use the snow as an excuse not to work......haven't you heard of the internet???

Re: Helloooooo!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Allison! It's great to hear from the both of you!

Good work on the piercing! I can't wait to see Mark's tats.

I'm very sorry to hear the developments with Bill. He's such a nice guy and it's just not fair. My thoughts will be with you all over the next few weeks.

Would you like me to make this message thread non-public?

-47 or +40 - I know which I would prefer.
Hello nephew,

I suspect there are many of us wishing we were there with you. This heat is disgusting and to add insult to injury there are power failures all over the place.

It sounds like you are enjoying yourself which is good. I loved the photo of you all rugged up, very cute which I am sure is the look you were going for. Your digs looked warm and comfortable even with its fake fire.

How are your language studies going? One good thing about being snowed in is you get plenty of time to study. Have fun and keep up the journal it is very entertaining.

Hello Aunty!

I got to say my first Italian phrase to someone today! It was to a consular official and it was "non parlo italiano".

I've been a bit slack on language studies as I can get a bit done with my computer even when snowed in.

Yeah, you can keep that heat...
